We all recognise the importance of learning to swim and we ensure all of our children do so by offering them swimming from Year 2-4. We try to keep costs down for parents by covering the costs of the swimming instruction and so asking parents to only pay for a coach at a cost of £50 for the journey to the pool. To add a return journey would add another £150 per week meaning a total of £200 for a two way trip. This extra cost is because Cheney Coaches use our outward journey coach for secondary school bus contracts and we get a discounted outward rate because it still allows that coach to be used for that purpose. We recognise that many parents are happy and able to collect from the pool as opposed to school and so would not want to bear such an increase in costs which would mean that this huge cost would have to be shared by a small minority of parents who may initially prefer to have return transport. We are also conscious with tightening budgets that going forward the school may also have to seek support for the cost of swimming instruction too. We request that families liaise with each other to help with lifts if needed and thank those who already do so. Many of you are unsung transport heroes already.
