Maths - Curriculum Intent

Children at Shenington benefit from an inspired, inclusive and challenging curriculum. Our curriculum aims to develop fluency and mastery among our children. With strong foundations, our children develop secure knowledge of the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division alongside the national curriculum objectives and mathematical concepts such as place value, measurement, shape, position and dimension fractions, geometry and algebra. We use manipulatives and model to strengthen these foundations and develop understanding of the concepts. Reasoning is encouraged and use of related mathematical language. Each class ensures every child becomes an independent learner who flourishes into a confident mathematician. Children are encouraged to show curiosity and a sense of enjoyment throughout their Maths lessons and develop their confidence and love of Maths.
