Phonics - Curriculum Intent

We want all our pupils to develop good reading skills. To support the learning of phonics we use the Read Write Inc (RWI) scheme to make this possible. Reading is at the heart of our school. We ensure all teaching staff are trained and are equipped with the knowledge and ability to teach every pupil regardless of background age or ability. Reading is an essential part of our curriculum. We encourage children to have a love of books and use the Fresh Start scheme from RWI to develop our readers phonological awareness in Key Stage 2.

We use Read Write Inc, a phonics programme, as a basis to teach reading and writing. We make use of a variety of different reading material including; Oxford Reading Tree, Oxford Literacy Web, Storyworlds, Rapid Readers, Magic Belt, Talisman and Totem series.
